Tour the South Okanagan of British Columbia

Karen and I took a week and spent it in Osoyoos, British Columbia where we did a tour to the south, the east, the west and the north from this southern Okanagan town.
Come along as we share this tour with you.

We left Kelowna on Friday afternoon around three thirty and headed south after stopping to fill up the fuel tank. We had decided that we were going to enjoy the trip and so our first leg was all of forty-five minutes.
The first stop was Hoofbeat Ranch in Summerland and this is a new 10 site Agri-Tourism park with 30 amp electrical and water.
Can't provide a link to a website as they do not have one yet but there phone number is 250-404-0549.
Now in BC if you have a working farm, ranch, orchard, or vineyard you can put in 10 RV sites for tourists to use. A lot of the small farms in the Okanagan are doing this and it is a good thing because the big campgrounds and RV sites are going the way of the dinosaurs as they are sold off to developers.

Saturday we continued on to Island View RV Resort in Osoyoos, which we planned to make our center to tour the area from.
This is a very nice RV Resort, but unfortunately the management seems to like to charge for things that don't exist and when confronted with the discrepancies they choose to tell you tough luck we don't do refunds.
Now let me clue you in on the whole story as we want to make sure everyone is aware of what may happen should you choose to stay in the park.
You have to put down a deposit (which most parks do when you reserve) but this one requires you to pay the balance online before you go to the park to stay. (So in essence you are paying upfront)
The receipt we got when we paid online was for  the amount due after the deposit was $404.42.
Now that was okay at the time, but once we were in the park Karen asked for an itemized receipt so we would know what we paid for.
Well the total of the itemized receipt was $400.42 which was different than what was put on our credit card. Then when we looked at the receipt from the office we saw we had been charged an extra $5.00 per day and when Karen asked the manager why, she said it was for our dog. (Wait....we don't have a dog!!) Now an extra $40 for the length of our stay for a dog we don't have did not make sense and when the manager was told that she said ....Oh, it is for an extra length charge. What???

On the parks website it said they have full hookups and all sites have cable and internet (although they have a warning that internet might not work in all sites.) Well our site had no internet and no cable and when I suggested a discount because the service was not as advertised on their site they refused. So once again we paid for service we did not get.

Anyway just want to let everyone know to be careful if booking into this park because you just don't know what you are going to get!!
Normally I would provide a link to the parks website, but if the park management wants to be difficult then why should I provide them with a free link. Not happening in this case.
When you leave Osoyoos and head to the east there is a great lookout on Hwy 3 just west of town as you head up the hill. Now this hill is not for the faint of heart if you are driving an RV. It is steep and winding for quite a few miles.
We wanted to check out Rock Creek as the Kettle River Provincial Park had been hit by a forest fire last year and we wanted to see how they made out. They are back up and running and in spite of the blackend trees the park was looking good.
We stopped at a very unique old hotel and pub in Rock Creek and if you ever go there you have to stop in and have a look.
This is our site at Island View and we did meet some very nice people that pulled in next door and spent a couple afternoons over millers and playing Continental Rummy. Won some and lost some!

Had a great time Stuart and Sherilyn. Hope to meet again on "The Journey"
