 Defrost A Steak In Minutes - No Heat Required


Have you ever planned on eating steak for dinner only to realize you forgot to defrost it? Well, according to some experts, there's a way to do that.   

You'll just need two metal pots and some good old room-temperature water. Simply turn one metal pot upside down and place the frozen steak on top. Then fill the second pot with water (just to make it heavier) and place it on top. In five minutes your 1cm-thick steak will be completely defrosted. And a 5cm-thick steak only takes 10 minutes.

Honey Instead of Sugar 

Bakers who want to substitute honey for sugar are advised to replace the amount of sugar in the recipe by three-quarters of the amount of honey. Also, reduce the baking temperature by 25 degree F (15 degree C) because honey can cause the food to brown faster. 

 So Easy Cooked Corn on the Cob

1 ear of corn with the husk and silk on it


1 Place the corn in the microwave, do not remove the husk. Microwave the corn on the high setting for 4 minutes.

2 Use a kitchen towel or pot holder to remove corn from the microwave (it's hot!) Cut off the bottom of the corn, stem end, about one row of corn in from the stem

3 Slip off the husk and silk.

 How to Saute Mushrooms

 In a large skillet heat oil or butter over medium-high heat. When the oil or melted butter is hot, add the mushrooms. 

You should hear a sizzle. If the fat isn't hot enough, the mushrooms will start to water out and steam instead of saute. 

Cook the mushrooms for 4 to 5 minutes or until tender and lightly browned, stirring occasionally with a heatproof spatula or 

wooden spoon.

For four side-dish servings, start with about 8 ounces (3 cups) sliced mushrooms and 2 tablespoons oil or butter.

Tip: Make sure not to crowd the mushrooms in the pan. This causes the mushrooms to water out and steam instead of saute. 

A single layer with space between the mushrooms is ideal.

 5 Ways to Love Sauteed Mushrooms

 1. Bistro-style: Saute 3 cups mushrooms as directed above. Stir in 1/3 cup dry red wine or sherry, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire

 sauce for chicken, and 2 teaspoons snipped fresh thyme. Simmer, uncovered, for 3 minutes. Season with salt and ground black 


2. Over steak or pork chops: Grill or broil your favorite cut of steak or pork chops. Serve sauteed mushrooms or Bistro-style 

   mushrooms on top.

3. In an omelet: Fill an omelet with sauteed mushrooms and, if desired, goat cheese or shredded Swiss and quartered grape 

  tomatoes. For extra flavor, sprinkle with snipped fresh thyme or basil.

4. Tossed with spaghetti: Add a few garlic slivers along with the mushrooms and saute as directed. Toss with cooked spaghetti,

   olive oil, and grated Parmesan cheese. Even better, toss with a bit of cooked and chopped bacon.

5. Sauteed with veggies: Add chopped onion and sweet pepper along with the mushrooms and saute as directed. 

   This trio makes a tasty quesadilla filling when added with the cheese. Or toss it into scrambled eggs.

 Keep cheese fresh for twice as long

To ensure your favorite cheese stays mold-free in the fridge, store it in a sealed container with two sugar cubes. The sugar will absorb the moisture released by the cheese, inhibiting the growth of mold spores

 Buy Wild Salmon

If you are shopping for salmon, look for wild species (Sockeye, Chinook, Chum, Coho, Pink). Wild salmon is generally available fresh from May to September. 

 Smash Your Herbs

Next time you add fresh herbs to a marinade, sauce or salad, gently smash them with a wooden spoon first (or use a mortar and pestle.) The friction will release the herb's natural flavor. If you're using dried herbs , rub them between your fingers to release the flavor. 

 Tips and Tricks for the Best Classic Popovers

Place popover pans on an 11 x 17 baking tray and place in the oven while you are preheating. The popover pan must be hot 

for best results.

Warm milk before to roughly 125 degrees before mixing with the eggs and flour. The warmer batter helps get the popovers 

cooking right away. This makes for a larger and taller popover.

Spray popover pans vigorously with cooking spray right before pouring batter into the cups.

Mix batter only until lumps are gone, do not overmix.

Start with a higher oven temperature and turn down after fifteen minutes.

Never open the oven during the baking process.

Serve immediately.
